To check on whether your relatives lived in West, North or South Belfast, you should supply as much information as possible to ensure that the
correct record can be found. The information required in order of importance is:
1. Surname and forenames of relative.
2. Surname and forenames of mother / father / husband /
wife / brothers / sisters.
3. Religion (be specific if possible e.g. Presbyterian,
Methodist, R. Catholic).
4. Approximate age in 1901.
5. Town, County or Country of Birth
For example, there are 1819 Smith/Smyths listed. There are 83 Mary Smiths and
100 John Smiths. Of these, 40 Johns are married and 7 Johns are married to Mary.
3 of the couples are Presbyterian, 2 are Roman Catholic and 2 are Church of
Ireland. In these examples, it can be seen
that more information on ages would be required to select the correct records.
Collect as much detail as possible and e-mail the information to
check@belfastfamilies.co.uk
The results of the search, whether successful or not, will be returned to
you.
If the search has been successful and you would like a full listing (all
names, ages, marital status, occupations and places of birth of the people
living at that
address) with details for
checking the microfilm copy at the Northern Ireland Public Records Office, then this can be
obtained for a small fee of £20 (to cover research, printing and packaging).
